ABSTRACT
The article informs that hundreds of endangered species were saved when the U.S. passed the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 1973 to help protect animals and plants at risk of becoming extinct. It indicates that 78 animals were included in the 1973 list of endangered species, a list that now consists of 2,100 species of animals and plants. It also describes the present status of the bald eagle, American alligator, grizzly bear and West Indian manatee, four animals included in the 1973 list.
