ABSTRACT
THE last thing ministers want to be seen to do is bolster the bankers' bonus culture. Labour has tabled a Commons motion calling for them to veto bonuses of up to 200 per cent of pay for RBS investment bankers — which the Government, as the owner of 80 per cent of RBS equity would, under EU rules, have to sanction. As yet the matter is hypothetical, but in RBS as elsewhere, investment bankers are accustomed to big bonuses and may move elsewhere if they don't get them.
