ABSTRACT
ALEX Salmond would gladly give the coat off his back to convince Scots that the pound will be safe in their pockets if they vote to leave the UK. In fact it looked like he had done so already when he showed up coatless and slightly down-at-heel for his meeting in Edinburgh with Bank of England Governor Mark Carney. By contrast, the Canadian banker with the film-star good looks was clad immaculately as he arrived to tell the First Minister some unwelcome home truths about currency unions, causing one onlooker to comment: 'That must be the most expensive overcoat ever seen inside Bute House.'
