ABSTRACT
The author discusses the challenges of implementing the Emissions Trading Scheme in the European Union (EU) countries. It outlines the three sets of targets of the EU including a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, 20% reduction in energy consumption, and 20% improvement in energy efficiency. It adds that the scheme will be operated through the cap-and-trade system. Focus is also given on the use of renewable energy resources in the country.
