ABSTRACT
Floppy ears and white furry patches are a few traits of domesticated mammals, noted Darwin. Now researchers from the Humboldt Univ. of Berlin, Univ. of Vienna and Harvard hypothesize that a group of embryonic stem cells, the neural crest, could be the link. Domesticated mammals might have an impaired neural crest, they said, which correlates with smaller adrenal glands and less fearfulness, in addition to depigmentation and malformed ear cartilage.
