ABSTRACT
A biography for jazz bassist, singer and composer Esperanza Spalding in Cleveland, Ohio is presented. Spalding was born in 1984 in Portland, Oregon, showing interest in music at an early age. She graduated at Berklee College of Music at the age of 20 and was offered a teaching position, making her the second-youngest person the college's history. Influenced by rhythms and blues (R&B) artists like Stevie Wonder and jazz icons such as Ron Carter, Spalding has recorded three music albums.
