ABSTRACT
This chapter provides information on the war of 1812 in the East. The New England states did not support the War of 1812. They had close trade ties with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and did not care about conquering Canada. In fact, when the U.S. forbade trade with the British North American colonies, many in New England ignored the law and started a booming smuggling business. The New Englanders were so against the war they threatened to separate from the rest of the U.S.
