Chapter 44 of the book "Adam Bede," by George Eliot is presented. It focuses on the return of Arthur Donnithorne to Liverpool and him hearing of his grandfather's death. Donnithorne recalls early memories of his grandfather. Also discussed are previous plans for the marriage of Adam Bede and Hetty Sorrel and Donnithorne's recollection of his estranged friendship with Bede. A letter telling Donnithorne of Sorrel's trial made him rush to Stoniton.
