ABSTRACT
The article discusses the war on terrorism, which was declared by United States President George W. Bush. The first military front opened in Afghanistan with air strikes on al-Qaeda and Taliban targets. The U.S. Congress passed the U.S.A. Patriot Act and President Bush ordered terrorist suspects to be tried in secret military tribunals. Public concern grew as government took more power and gave defendants fewer rights.
