ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the opening of the Harris County Domed Stadium in Texas by Judge Roy Hofheinz on April 9, 1965. Hofheinz was the former boy mayor of Houston. On that April day the judge called it the eighth wonder of the world, and the president of the U.S. sat in a special box to see the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros play the first game. Mickey Mantle finally settled it by hitting a towering home run in the twelfth inning to give the Yanks a 2-1 win over the Astros.
