ABSTRACT
The article offers facts about Richard King. He was born in New York on July 10, 1824 and works as a cabin boy, a steamboat pilot and a soldier in the war against the Seminole Indians. In 1850, King joined Mifflin Kenedy in a boat business on the Rio Grande. In 1852 they decided to leave the river and buy Spanish land grant called Santa Gertrudis in Texas and turn it into a ranch.
