ABSTRACT
The article offers facts about Philip Nolan, an Irish horse thief. On July 17, 1797, Nolan received a passport. It was to be the start of a series of forays into and out of Texas that ended with Spain fearing Nolan was gathering Indians and Americans to build a force to expel the Spanish. In 1801 he was murdered.
