ABSTRACT
The article profiles Davy Crockett, an author and former member of the U.S. Congress. Crockett was born in Tennessee on August 17, 1786. Though he had little formal schooling, he was far from an uneducated, ignorant backwoodsman. He wrote poetry and made intelligent speeches in his terms in the Congress. He came to Texas after he lost a campaign for reelection to Congress. When he heard of the problems at the Alamo, Crockett and some of his Tennessee friends marched in to help. He died there.
