ABSTRACT
The article provides information on the XIT Ranch in Panhandle, Texas. The construction of the ranch by a syndicate that also built the state capitol used 3 million acres of the area instead of cash for the job. They spent just over $3.2 million to build the structure, so the land cost them just over a dollar an acre. A 1,500 miles of fence were built including 100 dams and 300 windmills to support water needs for the herds.
