ABSTRACT
The author asserts that even though the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DOW) reached a record high in October 2006, this must not be confused with overall market activity. He explains that because the DOW enjoys a kind of brand name recognition, people fail to weigh its activity with the more reliable Standard & Poor's 500 Index and the Dow Jones Wilshire 5000. He also points out that the NASDAQ is below its 2000 high. While its fine to celebrate the DOW, he says, don't confuse it with the market.
