The author discusses the history of sociology, highlighting its past preponderance for examining the "big questions" and discussing the modern day trends of avoiding such questions. He focuses on the importance of objectivity in sociology and discusses differences in theory and practice as components of sociological research. The integration of other disciplines into sociology, such as economics, is an additional topic.
