ABSTRACT
The author comments on the efforts of the Middle East's energy industries to comply with tighter international environmental standards on the sulphur content of gasoline. He claims that the compliance attempt of the countries in the region was well overdue. He points out that as the region's reserves of light crude decrease in the coming years, the crude they will be refining in the next decade and beyond is of the heavy, high-sulphur variety.
