ABSTRACT
The authors reflect on the difficulties that physicians often encounter when attempting to encourage new mothers to breast feed their babies. They suggest breast feeding improves infant and maternal health and is the single most important preventive approach for saving children's lives. They argue that national strategies are needed to change the attitudes of new mothers and physicians about the importance and naturalness of breast feeding.
