ABSTRACT
The author discusses the strain on health resources in Great Britain due to winter cold and flu-like illnesses. He explains that Great Britain's National Health Service (NHS) Direct and drop-in centers have helped keep patients from hospital emergency centres. The effects of the increased work load on nurses during the NHS crisis are addressed. He stresses the importance of supporting clinical nurses.
