The author discusses teaching students biological evolution through the use of examples that pertain to human beings. Such examples include the adaptation of pathological microbes, phenotypic variation in human populations, and forensic science used on television shows. This approach is said to effectively confront popular resistance to the notion of evolution among the U.S. public, student misconceptions about complex topics, and a Lamarckian view of evolutionary change.
