An essay is presented that explores the representation of Asian American children in the fiction of the southern United States in order to provide a better understanding of the influence that growing immigrant populations have had on race relations in the South. The author discusses the role that children play in southern fiction and how they provide insight on southern social norms and gender relations. The author explores the issues related to race, ethnicity and place.
