An essay is presented on same-sex marriage bans in the U.S. It states that same-sex marriage bans is a strategy which is used to proactively prevent the GLBT rights before they happen and have been used by religious organizations. It states that most of the early marriage bans were referendums to repeal a passed law or a response to an existing law. It also mentions that marriage bans shifted to a ballot measure in legalizing same-sex marriage.
