ABSTRACT
The author focuses on the literacy test in the U.S. He says that the amount of public attention given to literacy test and the recognition of its enactment as a sign of immigration legislation expansion has been remarkable. He points out that literacy test serves both as a tool in filtering out undesirable immigrants and also becomes a further restriction for immigration approval. He presents some background information on the introduction of literacy test as a legislative measure for controlling immigration in the country.
