ABSTRACT
This article presents an interview with Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq. Khalilzad comments on the Iraqi constitutional vote, which passed even though two provinces voted it down. He is hopeful that the fact most Sunnis voted against the constitution will not exacerbate the sectarian tendencies of the country. Khalilzad claims it would be good if Iraq had a charismatic leader like Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan. When asked about the Sunni insurgency, he believes Abu Musab Zarqawi and the jihadists, and the Saddamists need to be isolated from the rest.
