ABSTRACT
An interview with writers Tom Franklin and Chris Offutt is presented. They discuss the fiction genre known as Grit Lit, which is an offshoot of the Southern Gothic genre. According to Franklin and Offutt, the genre is characterized by themes of poverty and rural life. Franklin discusses his experience of meeting writer Barry Hannah. They also discuss the autobiographical nature of their writing.
