Presents a letter to the editor of the April 1987 issue of the 'Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists,' commenting on the 1983 assurance given by the International Atomic Energy Agency that a loss-of-coolant accident at the Chernobyl, Ukraine reactor was practically impossible and subsequent events that proved otherwise.
