ABSTRACT
An opinion piece about the architectural competition for an extension of the building of the Universität für angewandte Kunst (University of Applied Arts) in Vienna, Austria, is presented. The author critiques the process and criteria by which the university selected architects invited to participate in the competition, bemoans that the reputations of the selected architects outweighed the quality of the designs submitted, and reviews the winning design, by Austrian architect Wolfgang Tschapeller.
