ABSTRACT
In this article the author discusses the fate of the European Union (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme. He notes that despite the fact the Trading Scheme is widely regarded as a failure, non-EU countries, including Australia, Kazakhstan, and China, have set up their own carbon trading schemes. Topics include a drop in the price of carbon dioxide (CO2) permits, the Scheme's 2020 emission target, and the effectiveness of carbon trading and taxation.
