ABSTRACT
Information about several topics discussed at a summit on stem cell aging held in September 2008 in Gaithersburg, Maryland is presented. Topics include the role of somatic stem cells in human aging, the roles of stem cell aging and niche aging in the decline of tissue homeostasis in aging and the potential causes of cell-intrinsic aging. The approaches to study tissue homeostasis with aging in the absence of injury are also discussed.
