ABSTRACT
Hard-working, traditional, and strict, the Amish live in communities scattered over much of the United States and Canada. Most Amish live in the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Indiana and Illinois. They are the strictest segment of a larger culture, the Pennsylvania Dutch. Their traditions, the Ordnung, do not allow them to use inventions such as telephones and cars, or to dress in modern clothes. The Mound Builders were an ancient civilization of Native Americans. An advanced culture, they traded with places as far away as Florida and Wyoming.
