ABSTRACT
An encyclopedia entry for German operatic soprano Lilli Lehmann is presented. Her technique, industry and executive authority made her one of the most daunting artists of her day. Her recordings reflect the praise of her colleagues precisely. She said that one grows weary of singing nothing but princesses for fifteen years. Although others thought she lacked charm, critics, singers and conductors wrote of her noble qualities as an actress. She sang in Danzig, in Leipzig and at the Berlin Court Opera.
